EFT for Better Sleep
Gone are the days of popping pills to sleep. Why? Because they don’t treat the root cause of the problem. To truly remedy your sleep, you must determine what the issue truly is. Are you staying up late and watching TV, or on the computer? If so, keep in mind that exposure to light decreases your melatonin, which is a hormone that helps you sleep. If it is hormonal, then addressing hormone balance and diet is key. However, if you are having racing thoughts or feeling stressed, then EFT may just be the remedy.
Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) is a tapping tool that helps to address subconscious triggers that may be affecting sleep. When the mind is over processing information it creates a sense of stimulation, which can prevent sleep. The same happens when we are feeling stressed. The stress hormone, cortisol, is released causing a person to feel alert. When focusing on our thoughts or the feeling of being stressed, it becomes very difficult to allow the body to naturally wind down. Therefore, we need to be able to disconnect from trying to control the mind and move toward calming the body.
The components of EFT are based upon acupuncture meridian points. Tapping on these points while verbally acknowledging the root of the stress is like changing the signal from an antenna. The energetic frequencies in the body start to shift and as a result, the mind starts to relax and slow down. In turn, stress levels drop and we begin to feel more in tune with our natural biorhythm to sleep.
There are many different ways to learn EFT. The most important key is to determine the root of the stress or what is causing the overactive mind. A great starting point for beginners is the EFT Manual by Gary Craig. EFT can also be used as a compliment to a wide range of other therapies in the management of weight loss, stress , digestive support, and pain.
