Hormones, ugh…they were the bain of my existence as premenstrual syndrome governed my life. Two weeks out of every month I could expect to feel miserable. My symptoms included breast tenderness, fatigue, sugar/fat cravings, bloating and weight gain. My doctor tried me on birth control to regulate the symptoms, but I just developed more stomach issues in the process. I attended a lecture that was given to my company by one of the EB Nutrition Dietitians where she talked about the connection between nutrition and hormone function. I was intrigued and decided to make an appointment. I learned that the root cause of my hormone imbalance stemmed from eating too much processed soy and hormone laden foods. Through diagnostic testing, I also discovered that my poor sleep cycle was impacting my hormones and depleting progesterone as well as digestive enzymes needed to break down foods. I was prescribed specific supplements to support and balance my body. After three months, my cycle was regulated and I was able to resume a modified plan and come off of the supplements. It is now one year later and I am PMS free and able to live my life to the fullest….every day of the month!
